I have called my insurance company. Now what?

Congratulations on taking the first step to have your roof replaced in light of the recent hail storms in the area! The hard part is now out of the way! Below you will find a typical timeline of the process in having filed an insurance claim and the steps that follow:

  • Contact your preferred roofing contractor to make them aware of the date and time in which the insurance adjuster is scheduled at your home to assess the damage, and a representative from the roofing company will also be present during the time the insurance adjuster is at your home.

  • After inspecting your property, the insurance adjuster will then deliver an itemized adjustment of all damages to the property to you which outlines what they are covering in the claim and how much they will pay. At this time, you should forward the adjustment paperwork to your roofing contractor as they will prepare a bid for roof replacement based off of the information found in the adjustment. Typically, insurance will deliver to you a partial payment at that time for the roof replacement. If your home is mortgaged, the check may be made out to you AND your mortgage company. Once you and your mortgage company have endorsed the check, you can then deposit it in to you bank account. The amount of that initial payment received from your insurance company will be the initial amount due to your roofing contractor.

  • Once you and the roofing contractor agree on the presented bid and you select a color for your shingles, the roofing contractor will order materials for the project. You should expect them to be delivered via flat-bed truck and placed in the area in which you specify (typically a driveway). The roofing contractor representative will then be in touch with you to agree upon a start date for the project. Typically, most projects are started and finished within the same day.

  • Upon completion, a final invoice will be sent on your behalf to your insurance company. The insurance company will then issue a second check to you for the remaining balance, which is to be paid to your contractor upon receipt.
